Millbrook Playhouse announces auditions for its Children’s Shows:
The Wind in the Willows and Help Wanted: Pirates!

Millbrook Playhouse is pleased to announce that it will hold auditions for its Children’s show on Saturday, June 12th from 12pm-1pm.  Casting young adults and adults to play roles in both children’s shows.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who has considered working with the Playhouse.  Interested actors should come prepared to sing a song with sheet music if they have it.  If not they may just sing Happy Birthday.  They may be asked to read from a side.  They should be prepared to stay for the whole audition.  The shows have the following tentative rehearsal and performance dates and roles.

The Wind in the Willows, based on the book.
The incorrigible Toad and his friends, the Mole and the Rat, go on a wild adventure!  When Toad gets arrested and sent to prison, he manages to escape disguised as a Washerwoman.  However, just as he does he runs right into the clutches of a ruthless Thief. Meanwhile his friends try to save him, but get lost and need a little help themselves!  The love these animals share for each other and their world is underscored by delightful songs.

Directed by Marc de la Concha.

Casting:

TOAD: Spontaneous and Irresponsible. Proud, Wealthy and Good-Natured. He loves to be the center of attention, which often gets him into trouble.

RAT: Practical, Dependable and Generous. A true friend with a good head on their shoulders.

MOLE: Shy, Affectionate and Loyal. Nearsighted, but wide-eyed with curiosity and wonder.

BADGER: Old-Fashioned, Wise and Stern. Even though he is stern and sometimes feared, he is not above being compassionate and forgiving. He is always willing to assist those in need, especially friends.

JUDGE: A pompous man of the law who is easily riled.

WASHERWOMAN: A poor but generous woman.

ENGINEER: Strong-minded, but tolerant man who is always willing to lend someone a hand, especially if they are in a desperate situation

THIEF: A less that competent robber with a temper. The roles of RAT and MOLE can be played by either a boy or girl

Rehearses June 18-19 Daytime, June 20 Evening, June 21-25 TDB, Performs June 26, July 10 and 17 at 11am. Will also perform for the Ross Library’s lunch bunch group.

Help Wanted: Pirates!
A World Premiere
There’s a treasure to be found, but there aren’t enough Pirates to man the ship!  Join us for this interactive Pirate Musical, where children get to learn the tools to the Pirate trade!  Children move from one location to the next, learning how to sail a ship, walk a plank and eat what Pirates eat, all while singing and dancing!

Directed by Mary Kate Burke, Artistic Director

CAPTAIN SQUID: A dashing, charismatic leader. Positive, can-do kinda’ guy.

TOBY (also TABBY): Oddly feminine looking, golden haired young cabin boy. Very pretty.

KOKOMO JOE: Big, outgoing, islander. A mix of many nationalities and colors. The ship’s cook.

CRABBY McCRACKEN: Short, grizzled, weather beaten, crusty. Has a hook for a hand and a patch over one eye. Ornery.

SCABBY McCRACKEN: Crabby’s partner in crime. Could be his wife or his brother. Equally crusty and ornery.

BUCCANEER BETTY: Bold, bawdy. One half of the finest female pirate team out there, “The Bettys.” A risk taker, but clumsy.

BUCCANEER BETTINA: Betty’s other half. Strong, athletic, would have played women’s hockey if it was around back then.
